MPH of KPH? Snapshots of the Beginning.

First sighting of Budapest!
As we flew over the giant river, which we assumed was the famous river that split Buda and Pest apart, we realized we were reaching our new home. The buildings looked like legos and we saw so many red roofs. We knew we weren't in America anymore as we landed and everything was in Hungarian. This was it! After I quickly spotted my hot pink Anne Klein zebra print luggage, obviously easily standing out among other bags, we waited and waited as Sarah's second bag never showed up. Of course they'd lose her luggage, what a start. When we finally reached our tandems, they greeted us with many kisses (normal I suppose) and helped us into a taxi. As we raced down the Hungarian streets, I couldn't help but wonder if I was the only one questioning our taxi driver's driving skills.... he seemed to be a little aggressive and dangerous... even for my liking. but then, when I noticed the speedometer said 140, I just prayed to god that meant KPH and not MPH (not like I even know the conversion)... but apparently it didn't matter as even our tandems seemed concerned for their lives as well. But whether it was KPH or MPH, I kept my mouth shut as I held on for dear life zooming down the streets. All the way there, I was in shock looking out the window at this new place I was to call home. So many incredible buildings to look at, there didn't seem to be enough time for my eyes to explore everything as we whizzed by. Finally reaching our apartment in a speed machine of a car, we had made it. INCREDIBLE was all I could think as I looked up and saw a magnificent building. THIS WAS MY HOME?! We unloaded luggage and went upstairs. Wondering know how I even managed to end up here, the courtyard in the center was too beautiful for words. The architecture was so unique, and the inside of my apartment was to die for as well. So much better than I ever could have imagine. Needless to say, I was already sold. Guess I was sticking around for now. AND SO IT BEGAN. The endless grocery trips where I couldn't grasp simple concepts, exposing me as a silly American, the metro/tram system, where we had to whip out our passes, and of course pulling out my camera at every location, even while crossing the street, were all about to become part of my daily life. AND NOW I AM IN LOVE. Every part of this place has a story. We are learning so much every day (actually interesting things) and exploring every part of this city and what it has to offer, is leading me to already have a new perspective.  I could not be any happier. I could be here forever. GOOD THING ITS ONLY BEEN 11 DAYS!
Below I have provided some snapshots of my glamourous life so perhaps you can see just a little of this amazing story.

Tihany Village... need I say more.

a picture of the streets in Tihany, Benedictine Abbey.

overlooking Lake Balton from the Abbey with Sarah!

swimming in paradise with Grace! Lake Balaton! They told us that the water was murky, usually clear, because it had just rained that night so the sand was all stirred up.

The beautiful Tihany Benedictine Abbey

A highly decorated man from the Order of the Knights! Showed us all the cool parts of his uniform including how to construct his bow, and his sword!

a perfect postcard snapshot of Lake Balaton

Herend Porcelain Factory where we "closed our eyes and explored the magical world of porcelain." This is the largest porcelain factory in the world.

Sight of the Red Sludge Spill that took place in Hungary in October of 2010. This is the dam that broke, releasing all the red sludge that covered several feet of forest and surrounding villages, causing for a great environmental disaster.

Szechenyi Baths and Spas, thermal springs. COOLEST EVER.

this one's for you mom- roommates first day of school picture!

view of Buda from the Danube River!
